Veneers Q & A
What are veneers?
Veneers are ultra-thin, tooth-shaped shells permanently bonded to the front side of your teeth, where they improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile by covering up cosmetic defects.
They’re typically made from porcelain or composite resin, both of which have a color and translucency that mirrors your natural tooth enamel, so they look just as natural on your smile as they do beautiful.
Veneers are custom-designed for your particular look and offer you a brand new smile that’s personal and unique. The procedure to place them is also minimally invasive, making veneers an incredibly popular cosmetic treatment.
How can veneers improve my smile?
Veneers cover up the entire front side of your teeth, effectively masking any cosmetic defects in your smile. With veneers, Dr. Hiroshige can aesthetically improve a wide range of conditions, including:
- Cracked, chipped, or cosmetically damaged teeth
- Staining that hasn’t responded to professional whitening treatments
- Teeth with large gaps between them
- Small or misshapen teeth
Once in place, your veneers will make your smile look uniform, radiant, and attractive.
What happens when I get veneers?
First comes a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Hiroshige, where you discuss your cosmetic goals and how you’d like your smile to look. Then, you and Dr. Hiroshige pick out a size, shape, and color for your veneers to create a dream smile that compliments the rest of your facial features. Dr. Hiroshige also ensures that your veneers are shade-matched with the rest of your teeth so that your smile looks natural.
Once you’ve selected your veneers, Dr. Hiroshige prepares your teeth by sanding down a very thin layer of enamel to make room for the veneers. The amount of enamel he removes is equivalent to the thickness of your veneers, which are incredibly thin. He then takes an impression of your smile that he sends to a dental lab.
You wear a set of temporary veneers while the lab designs your permanent ones from that impression, ensuring that they fit perfectly on your teeth and comfortably in your mouth.
You come back to the office when your permanent veneers are ready, at which point Dr. Hiroshige uses a strong bonding material to permanently affix them to your teeth. You leave the office with a radiant new smile that you’ll be excited to share with the world.
